Emotional Material Journal

Date

2025

This project explores emotional expression through material-based abstraction, documenting a seven-day emotional journey using tactile visual language rather than figurative representation.

I translated emotions such as calm, frustration, and gratitude into physical compositions using string, foam, and paper, focusing on texture, tension, and spatial relationships as communicative tools. This approach allowed emotional states to be expressed through material interaction rather than imagery.

Through iterative experimentation, I developed a series of abstract compositions that were later documented and assembled into an A5 artist book using digital layout and hand-binding techniques.

The final outcome demonstrates how emotion can be communicated through material exploration and structured visual sequencing.
